A town of houses, so the work is different
Billericay is not a town of blocks. It is a high street with housing either side of it: Victorian and Edwardian around the centre and the station, a great deal of between-the-wars and post-war building out towards Queen’s Park and Sunnymede, and newer closes filling the spaces between them.
That changes what we get called out to. Where Romford and Chelmsford flats mean heat interface units, Billericay means systems: radiators, pipework, cylinders, controls and the leaks that come with any of them. The HIU work here is the exception rather than the rule, and it is usually in one of the newer developments.
Older systems, extended one radiator at a time
The common thread in a town of houses this age is a heating system that has been added to rather than designed. A conservatory here, a loft conversion there, a radiator moved when a kitchen was done, and none of it rebalanced afterwards.
That is why the complaint is so often one cold room rather than no heating at all, and it is why the answer is so rarely the thing heating the water. Balance, pipe size and sludge in the bottom of the radiators explain most of them, and all three are measurable rather than matters of opinion.
Unvented cylinders are common here too, and they are a qualification of their own: G3. A cylinder that is not discharging properly, or a tundish that runs, is not a job for somebody without it.

Yes, and Ingatestone. They are on the same run between Brentwood and Chelmsford.
Do you charge more for coming out this far?
No. The rate is the same in Billericay as it is in Romford.
Do you work on gas boilers?
No. We are not Gas Safe registered and we do not work on gas appliances.
