What it is

Most no hot water calls on a cylinder system are not the cylinder. They are the immersion heater, the cylinder thermostat, or the valve that is supposed to send hot water to the cylinder and has stopped moving.All three are testable before anything is replaced, which is cheaper than guessing and is the first thing we do. An immersion heater or a thermostat is a short job. A cylinder is a longer one.Anthony is G3 qualified, which is the unvented hot water qualification, so unvented cylinders are installed and replaced as well as vented ones. An unvented cylinder also has safety parts that are meant to be checked: the expansion vessel, the pressure relief and the discharge route, and those are the parts nobody looks at until they let go. £150 an hour, minimum one hour, and we say if a part needs ordering.

On an unvented cylinder the expansion vessel, the relief valve and the discharge route are the ones that matter.
- 5Replace what has failed
Fitted, run up, and the temperature set hot enough to be safe without scalding.

Are you qualified to fit unvented cylinders?
Yes. Anthony holds G3, which is the unvented hot water qualification. Unvented and vented cylinders, immersion heaters, cylinder thermostats and the valves that go with them.
There is no hot water but the heating works.
On a cylinder system that usually points at the immersion heater, the cylinder thermostat, or the valve that sends hot water to the cylinder.
How much is it?
£150 an hour, minimum one hour. An immersion heater or a thermostat is usually within it.

What if the heating or hot water has stopped?
Tell us what has changed and any fault code on the display, and have a look at what the pressure gauge reads. If there is water coming out of the unit, turn the water off at the stopcock and ring us. A photo of the display saves a lot of guessing.
