A town of thirties semis, and what that means for heating
Hornchurch is dominated by interwar semi detached housing, laid out street after street between Elm Park and Emerson Park. The heating systems in them have almost all been replaced at least twice, and the pipework underneath rarely has been.
The result is a house where the heat source is newer than the system it is feeding. Small bore pipe feeding modern radiators, a system balanced for a layout that no longer exists, and one room that has never been right since an extension went on.
Emerson Park, and bigger houses with older hot water
Emerson Park and the roads around it are a different proposition: larger detached houses, more bathrooms, and hot water run off a cylinder rather than instantaneously. The jobs there are cylinder work, immersion heaters, thermostats, and the valves that are supposed to send hot water to the cylinder and have stopped moving.
The flats along the main roads
The newer blocks along the main routes and nearer the station are increasingly on communal heating, which puts a heat interface unit in the cupboard. If that is you, poor hot water is usually a strainer rather than a failing unit, and the difference between those two is the difference between a service and a replacement.

Very common in a thirties semi. The usual cause is that the radiator was sized for the room but the pipe feeding it was not, so it can never get enough flow. That is measurable.
