The town centre blocks, and what is in the cupboard
Romford town centre has changed more in the last decade than anywhere else we cover. The blocks that have gone up around the station and behind the shopping centre are mostly on communal or district heating, which means there is no appliance in the flat at all. What sits in the cupboard is a heat interface unit, taking hot water from the building's plant and using it to run the radiators and the taps.
Those blocks are the bulk of our work. The faults repeat so reliably you could set a calendar by them: hot water that goes lukewarm because a strainer is full of debris off the riser, heating that will not come on while the hot water is fine, and the occasional leak under the unit.
We work on Danfoss, Ideal, Worcester, Caleffi, V-therm, Evinox, Inta and more. If you can read the badge on the front, say so when you ring and we will know what we are coming to.
Collier Row, Rush Green and the thirties streets
Away from the centre, Romford is thirties semi detached and terraced housing through Collier Row, Rush Green and the roads off the main routes. The common thread is a pipework layout designed for a system nobody runs now, with radiators added to it one at a time ever since.
That is why the complaint here is so often one cold room rather than no heating at all. Balance, pipe size and sludge explain most of them, and all three are measurable rather than matters of opinion.
Converted houses, and whose stopcock is whose
There is a great deal of converted property: houses split into flats and maisonettes where one original system was divided between two homes. Those need care, because what looks like one system is frequently two, the controls rarely match what the pipework actually does, and the stopcock serving your flat may not be in your flat.
We also cover Collier Row, Gidea Park, Harold Wood, Rainham, Noak Hill and Havering-atte-Bower from here.
What we take on in Romford
HIU servicing
A heat interface unit that is never looked at loses hot water performance slowly enough that nobody notices until it is bad.
Read moreHIU repair
No hot water, no heating, a leak under the unit, or a code on the display. Telling us what it is doing saves a visit.
Read moreHIU replacement
If you live in a flat on communal heating, the unit in your cupboard is a heat interface unit, and replacing one is a different job from anything in a house.
Read moreRadiators
A radiator added, moved, swapped for a towel rail, or balanced so the back bedroom finally warms up.
Read moreLeaks
A leak you can see, a stain on a ceiling you cannot explain, or a meter that keeps turning with everything off.
Read moreDrainage
A sink that drains slowly, a gully that backs up in heavy rain, or waste pipework that has never run properly.
Read moreToilets
Fitted, swapped, or the one that has been running quietly into the pan since the spring.
Read moreSinks and taps
Taps that drip, taps that have seized, and basins and sinks swapped without wrecking the worktop.
Read moreCylinders
G3 unvented qualified. Cylinders installed and replaced, vented and unvented, and the small parts on them that fail quietly until there is no hot water.
Read moreHeating controls
Thermostats, programmers and smart heating, fitted and actually set up rather than left on the default.

Questions from Romford
Do you cover the whole of Romford?
Yes, and Collier Row, Gidea Park, Harold Wood, Rainham, Noak Hill and Havering-atte-Bower with it.
My flat is on communal heating. Can you look at it?
Yes, and it is most of what we do. What is in your cupboard is a heat interface unit, not an appliance that burns anything. Tell us the make and what the display says and we can usually narrow it down before we come out.
Can you service several flats in one block?
Yes, and it is cheaper per flat. £120 each for up to 5, £100 each for 5 to 10, done in the same visit.
Other areas we cover
